Rob is a 3rd generation Director at WJ Shirley, having worked part time in the family business since 1982, and then held a senior role since 2003.

Prior to joining the family business, Rob achieved a PhD in Historical Geography and also worked as a Payroll Consultant, a graphic & website designer, and later had a computer software business. 

Today, Rob is a Director with overall responsibility for the business, focusing on new business opportunities, the development of new services and the continued improvement of the company. 

He also provides expert guidance on drainage costs, legislation and industry best practice, helping to ensure WJ Shirley continues to evolve and strengthen its service offering.

What is your favourite part of your job? Developing the culture and tech side of the business

If you weren’t working for WJ Shirley, what would you be doing? I would probably be a Software Developer about to be made redundant by AI, however, I am very happy with my current job. 

Favourite drink? Beer, sometimes wine, G&T, or whisky. I also like Slovakian plumb liqueur
