A Decade as a Drainage Engineer at WJ Shirley
We recently congratulated our longest standing drainage engineer, Laci, on his 10-year work anniversary at WJ Shirley.
When Laci first started, the company comprised of one team and since then, we have expanded significantly with Laci playing an instrumental role as a reliable, experienced and valued engineer.
Our reputation is built on our quality of service, client satisfaction, reliability and attention to detail, and Laci embodies every one of these attributes and plays an integral role in our team.

We asked Laci about his time at WJ Shirley and this is what he had to say:
How have you seen WJ Shirley evolve over the past 10 years?
The increase in teams is the main thing, when I first started there was 1 team and now there is nearly 7. Rob [Shirley] was the only person in the office so the growth over the past 10 years really has been enormous.
What are your favourite thing about working for WJ Shirley?
The people!
What has been your career highlight whilst working for WJ Shirley?
I started with zero experience of drainage, and now I can say I think I know most of it – but there is always room to learn more. It has also been a great company to work for.
How would you describe the business in 3 words?
Trustworthy. Client focused. Detail-orientated.
Summarise what you have learnt over the past decade working for us?
An improved professionalism, resilience and increased adaptability for changing business environments.
By leading and mentoring others, I have enhanced my own understanding of the industry, as well as improved my team work and communication skills through working in a team.
I have also enjoyed understanding how the business operates as a whole, not just my job role.
