What is a Treatment Plant?
A treatment plant is similar to a septic tank but treats the waste further and discharges cleaner water. A treatment plant will have an electricity supply unlike a septic tank.
Treatment plants are also allowed to discharge to a watercourse, whereas a septic tank cannot.
Why Maintenance Matters
Treatment plants rely on a multi-stage process to treat wastewater before safely discharging compliant effluent.
Without regular maintenance and emptying:
• performance declines
• risk of pollution increases
• compliance may be compromised
• minor issues can escalate into costly repairs and remediation
It is a criminal offence to discharge unclean effluent, which occurs when the treatment plant is not maintained.
